Wheel of the Year In Finnish Folklore - PDF File

For many centuries Finland was an agricultural society. People's lives were connected to the land and farming. It is only natural that these old festivals were connected to sowing and harvest. Many of these holidays were old pagan holidays. During Middle Ages, many of them got Catholic influences and later on Lutheran influences.

The old wheel of the year began from Kekri, the harvest festival (a Finnish version of Samhain/Halloween). Later on, this celebration was pretty much replaced by Christmas. Many of these festivals are more unique to the northern hemisphere like Ukon Vakat, which was the celebration of Summer Solstice.
